How Does "Choice Versus Obligation" Impact Your Mind, Body, And Spirit?
If freedom is a value for you, then it is worth your while to consider how obligation affects you, versus choice.
When you make decisions or live in a place of obligation, it removes the energy of choice, freedom, spaciousness, and expansion.
Parts of your body will contract/tense up, and your nervous system will go into overdrive in response to the thoughts of:
"I have to___, "I should___," and/or "I don't have a choice."
Your body and spirit will feel trapped or cornered into doing something while feeling like there is no way out. This will likely create angst or anxiety within and will affect the way you show up in life.
Thinking and therefore reacting from this place on a daily basis will create tracts and ingrain patterns of behavior in your subconscious, forming a sense of prison over time.
Yes, there are responsibilities and commitments in life to show up for... but if you actively and consciously come from "I choose to ____" (fill in the blank), you are coming from a different sense of agency.
"I choose" statements lead to a sense of empowerment, freedom, sovereignty, spaciousness, and far less resistance in the body as a response.
The parts of you that are intolerant to feeling trapped are less likely to be unruly, or act out and come to the forefront.
Next time you hear yourself saying the words "I have to" or "I should" notice what your body does in response...and notice how your heart and spirit feel (your energy).
Then shift the words to "I choose" and notice the response that comes with that.
Remember that you are meant to be free.
If you are not feeling free in areas of your life, we can work through that together during your session.
